Practice Facilty

The practice range at Rivermead boasts a large grass tee, high quality artificial mats and a covered structure with three hitting bays.  New practice target greens on the range are part of the golf course Master Plan and will be constructed as part of that project.

The construction of our new short game practice facility and new putting green adjacent to the 1st tee was completed in August 2015.  It includes a 6,500 sq. ft. putting green  and a 5,500 sq. ft. chipping green with a large bunker and two sided fairway area.  The total investment was $175,000.  These new areas will be ready for play in Spring 2016.

According to Graham Cooke, our golf course architect:

“The changes and additions shown in the plan offer an ideal use of this land.  With a growing membership and the demands of more golfers, more lessons and clinics, the need for expanded and updated facilities becomes a necessity.  The new age of golf boasts far more time practicing than 15 or twenty years ago.  Many golfers’ schedules don’t allow the typical 2-4 hour window for golf all that often and instead will opt for an hour of chipping and putting instead.  The new putting and chipping greens will provide an excellent and attractive passive use feature that all can enjoy.

“The chipping green, as shown, provides excellent utility and a practice opportunity that is easily accessible.  The chipping green, as shown, does not interfere with the course or create congestion.  This green and turf will reflect the high conditioning of your other course greens and thus will add interest and finish to this area of your property.

“Few courses have the advantage of space to undertake a project of this nature.  Fortunately, this course work can proceed with only a minor interruption to the traffic flow in this area.  Having these additional attractive greens should satisfy the important putting and short-game practice demands of your membership for the long term.”
